Bryher - Isles of Scilly

The name “Bryher” means place of the hills but these are Scillonian hills and therefore not too challenging! Bryher undulates gently from tip to toe and as a result it is home to some of the finest views on Scilly. The island is the smallest of the inhabited Scilly Isles at one and half miles long and less than three-quarters of a mile wide at its widest point.
Bryher is an island of wild beauty and contrasts. Venture to the edge of Hell Bay, famous for it’s stormy seas thundering against the rocks. Head down to Rushby Bay with it’s fine white sands or visit Green Bay where the sea is as calm as can be.
The island’s roads are more like rough tracks with one taking you across the middle of the island and another past fresh farm stalls selling vegetables and fudge. Most of the island’s inhabitants are employed in farming and tourism. Bryher is home to England’s most westerly pub and the smallest pub on the Isles of Scilly.
During some spring tides it is possible to walk no more than knee deep from the east coast of Bryher to the island of Tresco.
